HIN also refers to a Hull Serial Number.It’s a 12 digit number which identifies when the vessel was built and by whom.The HIN provides a uniform method of identification.It is found on the outboard starbourd side of the transom.All pleasure craft made in Canada or imported to be sold must have a HIN.
No person shall operate a pleasure craft, and no owner or other person entrusted by an owner with the care and control of a pleasure craft shall allow another person to operate the pleasure craft, unless it has the applicable plate attached to it and is marked with a hull identification number.No person shall alter,deface or remove a HIN.
If a boat is not marked with a HIN,the owner shall make a request for a number to the manufacturer.
