Manoeuvring and Warning Signals – Pleasure craft

When vessels are in sight of one another, a power-driven vessel underway, when manoeuvring as authorized or required by these Rules, shall indicate that manoeuvre by the following signals on her whistle

Signals Meaning
1 short Altering to star.
2 short Altering to port
3 short Going astern
2 long + 1 short Overtaking you on your star.
2 long + 2 short Overtaking you on your port
1 long+1 short+1 long+1 short I agree
At least 5 short I don’t understand/agree
1 long Nearing a bend /obstruction – upon hearing – sound 1 long

 

Sound Signals in Restricted Visibility – International

In or near an area of restricted visibility, whether by day or night, the signals prescribed in this Rule shall be used as follows:

1 long+2 short / 2 min. Not Under Command ,Restricted in ability to Manoeuvre , Sailing Vessel , Fishing Vessel , v/l towing or pushing , F/V @ anchor , RAM @ anchor
1 long +3 short / 2 min. Towed v/l , if manned
4 short / 2 min Pilot v/l
